It's A Wild One Out There
Get your shovel and start digging!
Good morning neighbour, and welcome to winter!
We got walloped with the biggest snowfall of the season so far, with heavy snow forcing school closures and student bus cancellations across the city.
Environment Canada says 20 to 30 centimetres of snow are expected to fall, making this the most significant snowfall so far this winter. The agency upgraded Toronto to an orange snowfall alert around 8 a.m., warning that conditions will remain rough as snow continues into the late afternoon.
It’s not just snowy, it’s cold! Temperatures are sitting around –9 C, but with the wind chill it feels closer to –22 C in the morning and –17 C later in the day.
Surprisingly, the sidewalk plows are already out, but we all know they do a mediocre job at best so if you’re able to shovel the area in front of your home or business (like the champs at Coffee and All That Jazz), your mobility-challenged neighbours will appreciate it.
For parents looking to keep the kiddos busy today, the High Park library opens at noon, and I’m sure the local restaurants will be happy to see you for lunch or snacks.
Outdoor options obviously include tobogganing, with the closest options being High Park, Lithuania Park and Rennie Park, as well as the Sorauren Park rink, although the status of the ice is currently not clear.
Have fun out there, and stay safe!
